Introduction
The AIPP Foundation (hereafter refered to as AIPP) is a regional
organizationn
conceived by indigenous peoples organizations in 1988 to strengthen
the process of building cooperation and
solidarity
among indigenous peoples of Asia. It is
committed to the cause of protecting and revitalizing indigenous
systems and institutions and their control over their ancestral
homelands and their own development and future.
The First General Assembly (GA) of AIPP was held in
April 1992 in Bangkok, where it adopted its Charter and Working
Guidelines. The Second GA was held in Bangkok in May 1996, the Third
in 2000 in Sabah Malaysia, and most recently the Fourth GA held in
Chiang Mai in October 2004.
Members and observers from 14 countries attended
the Fourth AIPP General Assembly.
